(PRWEB UK) 26 July 2013

Along with Ordnance Survey, Mountain Rescue, Swiss Tourism, Walk4Life and outdoor equipment manufacturer Mammut, GO Outdoors is helping to launch the new ‘Walk the World in 80 Days’ initiative. This event encourages walkers – including both novices and veterans – to discover and complete walks before reporting their progress online.

In total, it is hoped that 25,000 miles – equivalent to the entire circumference of the earth – will be walked as part of the challenge, which runs from July 27th to October 14th.

“This is a simple challenge to celebrate a summer of walking and encourage as many people as possible to enjoy the outdoors. It’s about bringing the walking community together with a single aim in mind,” said Russel Bennett of GO Outdoors.

“It doesnt matter who you are, where you are, or how far you walk. Just as long as you do! And it couldnt be easier to get involved,” he added.

During the duration of the challenge, walkers can post updates on their efforts to the event webpage at http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/80days, with the combined progress of the collective walk displayed on a global map.

Participants are also encouraged to donate to the official charity of the campaign, Mountain Rescue. However, any donations they do choose to make are entirely at their own discretion and mileage completed in any challenge can be declared, whichever charity benefits.

As an added bonus, there will be an exclusive prize draw hosted on the event’s website, with the prize of an eight-day hiking holiday for two – worth some
